Strategic Project Manager


The Strategic Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing a diverse portfolio of projects for FDS Avionics, including but not limited to: product launches, business process improvements and optimization, new system implementations and the like.   This individual will serve as strategic internal consultant regarding projects & processes that best support the needs of FDS’ business; as well as have responsibility as the hands-on project manager throughout project life-cycles.   


  • Manages the entire project life-cycle for assigned projects to include but not limited to:
    • Project planning, organization readiness, defining project objectives, statements of work, creating action plan to achieve project parameters, establishing project timelines etc.
  • Responsible for establishing a communication plan for all projects including but not limited to:
    • Creating a communication plan which supports the project objectives and vision.
    • Establishing buy-in and working relationships with stake holders.
    • Providing regular updates to project sponsors.
    • Maintaining open communication lines with project team, stake holders and project sponsors.
  • Participates in selection of project team members.
  • Provides direction and assigns project tasks appropriately to project team members.
  • Responsible for project risk analysis and risk mitigation.
  • Leads project team in achievement project milestones and key implementation dates.
  • Establishes processes/procedures to monitor project progress.
    • Monitors progress, provides direction and resources to resolve project issues and obstacles.
  • May serve as subject matter expert in selection, implementation and maintaining business systems, for FDS.  These responsibilities may encompass:
    • Needs assessment, system vetting/evaluation, recommendation and implementation of systems.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Project Management or other related discipline.
  • Two to Four years’ experience managing projects in an engineering, manufacturing or technology environment. Or, Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred.
  • Solid leadership skills with ability to lead and influence team members who are not direct reports.
  • Top notch organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Superior communication skills, verbal, writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Computer Skills

  • Solid experience with MS Project and the Microsoft Office Suite of products with very strong Excel skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position leads a project team but typically does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • PMP or similar certification preferred.
